Terra Nova is an example of a brand new Science Fiction show that has recently come out in the United States. The show is about a world where the environment is slowly disintegrating and everything in the biosphere is slowly dying and falling away. The “Terra Nova” is a particular new settlement that is being established to give humanity its last hope of survival. The twist is that the settlement Terra Nova is being established in the distance past- about 85 million years ago. One show that airs on Fox is a new age Sci-Fi series called “Terra Nova”. The premise of the story focuses on a group of people in 2149 on the brink of human extinction, and they go through a time continuum back to the Cretaceous period.

Another great show that’s on its second season is “How to Make It in America” on HBO. Producers of “Entourage” developed the show as well as actor, Mark Wahlberg. It’s a really cultural clash of a bunch of element mixing the underground fashion scene with the downtown fashion scene. It provides a really cool element with the melting pot of New York City. It features great actors like Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie) as well as rap star, Kid Cudi.

Headline News (HLN) is the cable channel where I get my news. I particularly like The Morning Express anchored by Robin Meade. Robin has a very sunny personality and her co-anchors are also very upbeat, which is just what I need in the morning.

The Morning Express airs from 6am to noon every weekday. I usually tune while I’m getting my morning coffee and puttering around the house. Segments of world news, national news and entertainment news are combined with financial advice and travel reports and are repeated throughout the program so I know if I miss anything I can catch it later.I found some more information here.

In the evening HLN offers several legal commentary shows featuring hosts such as Joy Behar, Dr. Drew Pinsky, Jane Velez-Mitchell and of course Nancy Grace dissecting current high-profile new stories. Most recently the trial of Casey Anthony has been their focus of their attention.

The format of these shows is similar in that the host engages a panel of experts in analyzing the topic of the night. Each host has a distinct style and personality. Behar relies on her comedic roots to poke fun at the subject at hand. Grace is utterly rude and confrontational to her guests. Velez-Mitchell seesaws between civility and Nancy Grace tactics.

There are hundreds of TV shows streaming at all times of the day and night. Ones are of course more popular then others, but as of right now the number one show watched on TV is True Blood. True Blood is a show about vampires and humans going against each other. The second most watched show is completely opposite– The Bachelorette. The Bachelorette is about a beautiful girl who gets to pick between 25 very successful men. Once the bachelorette picks the man of her dreams, she gets to marry him,, and live happily ever after. So You Think You Can Dance is the third most watched TV show. It is a very intriguing show to watch. You see dancers doing flips and break dancing moves, to the most elegant ballet and lyrical moves. The judges judge as fairly as they can, and the winner of the show gets to be known as the best known dancer in America. Similarly, The Voice, the forth most watched TV show, the winner gets to be known as the person with the best known voice in America. The judges at first pick their ‘players’ blindly, and as the show continues the judges and America ends up choosing the person with the best voice known in America. That show is by far, the best talent TV show I have ever seen on television. Americas Got Talent, which is the 5th most watched TV show in America is pretty much all of the 1-4 shows put together. There are people that audition that do crazy stunts, sing opera, jump rope, juggle, even ride bikes! The talent seen on that show is so impeccable, and the winner gets a one hour act in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is the opportunity of a life time. All of these shows are well family oriented and fun to watch.

With each new season it seems like there are less scripted TV shows and more reality programs. I can certainly appreciate a good drama series or a well-written sitcom but I am rapidly replacing my regulars with reality shows.

One of the reasons that I am watching more reality TV is because a lot of these shows appeal to my whole family. My oldest son thinks my favorite drama is sappy and some of the jokes on the sitcoms I like are a little racy for my youngest. Reality competition shows such as Survivor or Wipeout provide the necessary action to keep us interested with very little offensive language or subject matter.

Game shows are also popular around our house. Wheel of Fortune is a family favorite because we are about evenly matched in problem solving ability. Jeopardy is harder but gives us each a chance to show off a little knowledge in certain subjects.

Another competition based show that our family enjoys is Americas Got Talent. This show features a wide variety of amateur acts performing for a panel of judges. Viewers can actively participate by casting votes for their favorite contestants so each member of our family can do their part by phoning in.
